On July 2, 2024, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Chengdu Newsun Crop Science Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Chengdu Newsun") held an online exchange discussion on the application of biotechnology research and standardized management to restore agricultural ecosystems, address the international food crisis, and promote the transformation and upgrade of the global food system. Participants included Mr. Lemma Samson, Ms. Liu Qingqing, and Mr. Yang Puyun from the FAO's Innovation Department, renowned international pesticide expert Ms. Yang Yongzhen, Vice President of the Chinese Agricultural Technology Extension Association, Chairman of Chengdu Newsun Mr. He Qiming, and the Chengdu Newsun Biotechnology Research Institute team.

During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on promoting the transformation of the food system, addressing climate change and environmental issues related to abiotic stress under extreme weather, and resolving issues related to increasing food production and income. The Chengdu Newsun team reported on the successful cases and management plans for restoring agricultural ecosystems through standardized agricultural management and the use of Plant Growth Regulators Technology, Biostimulants technology, and a Combination of Biological and Chemical pesticides to solve pest resistance and increase food production and improve the quality of agricultural products. Both parties conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on the application, promotion methods, and achievements of the standardized planting management system.

According to the FAO report, the "State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2023", an estimated 691 million to 783 million people worldwide are facing hunger, with the number of hungry people in regions such as West Asia, the Caribbean, and Africa still increasing, and more than 3.1 billion people unable to afford a healthy diet. As an agricultural biotechnology company, Chengdu Newsun has been focusing on green agricultural biotechnology innovation for more than two decades, concentrating on the construction of a scientific research system and biotechnology research oriented towards the comprehensive health protection of crops, playing an important role in consolidating the foundation for safe grain production, increasing food production, improving the safety and quality of agricultural products, and addressing the food crisis:

First, focusing on Soil Remediation Technology. Chengdu Newsun has developed more than a dozen patented technologies and products for soil acidification, salinization, heavy metal remediation, and aggregate structure restoration. By improving soil aggregate structure, ameliorating acidified and salinized soil, enhancing soil fertility and land quality, and improving the soil environment for crops, it lays a solid foundation for high and stable crop yields.

Second, concentrating on Green Pest Control. Chengdu Newsun advocates the concept of prevention, preemptive treatment, and active prevention and treatment, promoting the synergistic effect of biological pesticides combined with chemical pesticides for grain crops, reducing the use of chemical pesticides, delaying chemical pesticide resistance, reducing the dependence of pests on chemical pesticides, improving the quality and safety of agricultural products, and maintaining biodiversity.

Third, addressing the impact of abiotic stress on agricultural production. Through the development and application of Biological Plant Growth Regulators, Biostimulants, and other technical products, from improving seed germination rates under salinized, acidified, drought, and high-temperature conditions, to enhancing crop resistance during the growth period, it achieves yield targets while significantly improving the quality of agricultural products.

In the future, Chengdu Newsun will continue to focus on the research and application of biotechnology, concentrating on standardized management throughout the crop's life cycle, committed to food security and food quality safety, supporting the transformation and upgrade of the global food system, and contributing to the sustainable development of global agriculture.
